Mrs. Sunanda Pawar
Smt. Sunanda Rajendra Pawar is a noted social activist who is involved in
social welfare since 1971. She works for the enhancement and empowerment of
rural women and people from an ordinary background. She is actively
involved in various social welfare programs which include Agricultural
development, women empowerment through self-help groups, health sector,
environment conservation, education, culture and sports. She has several
accolades under her belt for her sincere dedication in social development
and also held responsible positions in noted councils and institutions
which work for overall well - being of the society.
She organizes several schemes and events to provide various types of
support in different fields. Bhimthadi Jatra is one such brainchild of Smt.
Sunanda Pawar, which is one of Pune’s biggest cultural events. It is a four
and half day cultural carnival that aims at bridging the gap between rural
and urban India. It has a variety of Domains like Cultural exhibitions,
Food market, Flea Market, Live Shows, Packaged/Homemade food products,
Handicrafts, Handloom and more. It has a footfall of lakhs of visitors
every year.
This event was initially started with a vision to empower rural women
financially and socially. Now it has been a successful event for the past
14 years, and more than 3000 women savings groups participate in this every
year. This has provided business opportunities for more than 100 different
women’s businesses.
Sunanda Pawar always strives for the betterment of the society in every
possible way, and she is involved in many major welfare programs taking
place across Maharashtra.
